Storia di un manoscritto dai proprietari illustri: il MS München, BSB, Cod. hebr. 246

This article aims at tracing the history of MS München, BSB, Cod. hebr. 246 through its content and numerous marginalia. This volume, known for its crucial importance in reconstructing the biography of convert Flavius Mithridates, was copied during the first part of XV cent. by members of Mithridates’ own family, the Abu al-Farag. It accompanied Mithridates not only during his early studying years, but also later in his tumultuous life as a convert, clergyman and translator for both Federico da Montefeltro and Giovanni Pico della Mirandola. Through its pages, however, some other elements can be added to the reconstruction of the history of this manuscript as an object dating from after Mithridates’ mysterious disappearance and before its entrance into Johann Albrecht Widmanstetter’s collection.
